People often think the worst thing about being tall is hitting your head on the door when walking through a doorway. Or, always being asked at the grocery store to grab an item for someone on a top shelf that they can’t reach. Sometimes the most simple things that average height people take for granted become very complicated for tall people. Take buying a bike for example. For average height people this consists of walking into a bicycle store, finding the bicycle you like and purchasing it. For tall people the simple task of purchasing a Cruiser bicycle becomes a source of frustration as they cannot find a bicycle that suits their needs. Do not worry, we know how you feel and have compiled a short buying guide and reviewed three of the best cruiser bicycles that are sure to fit the needs for all tall riders.
What is important when choosing a Cruiser Bicycle for a Tall Rider?
The most important choice when choosing a bicycle for tall riders is the proper frame size. While bikes come in all shapes and sizes they are generally measured by the length of the top tube. The top tube is the top bar of the frame that runs horizontally from the handlebar area (head tube) to the seat area (seat tube) of the bicycle. Another common measurement for bicycles is the wheel size. A 26” bicycle would generally mean a wheel with a diameter of 26”. When choosing a Cruiser Bicycle, tall riders must ensure that this measurement is large enough to provide them with the most comfortable ride. Handlebar position is also very important, being tall generally means longer legs and arms. By having a relaxed handlebar mounting position it allows the tallest of riders to be able to move around in their seats and maximize their comfort during the ride. There are other features that make a bicycle great for tall riders, these range from heavy duty components, to larger seats that provide great comfort during a long ride.
We came up with a short list of the Best Cruiser Bicycles for Tall Riders, take a look below.
Firmstrong Chief Man Beach Cruiser Review
We really like this bicycle for its curvy design. This is a feature that we think makes Cruiser style bikes look so great. This is also the only bicycle on the list with white wall tires, a throw back to the bicycles of years ago. This frame has a forward mounted pedal format, this is important for tall riders as it allows great amounts of room for your legs when pedaling. We really like the fact that this bicycle comes in 1-speed, 3-speed and 7-speed designs and comes with a suspension seat for extra comfort. There is not much that we do not like about this bike, but there are a few small things. First the “flame” decals on the frame and chain cover cheapen the look of this bike and even though we love the white wall tires, we wish they were slightly more aggressive to provide better traction when on dirt paths. These are small items that we could easily change and overall we think any tall rider would consider themselves lucky to own this bike.
sixthreezero Mens In the Barrel Beach Cruiser Review
This bike is one of our favorites, the eye catching design would have you looking great whether you were cruising the beach or to your favorite down town coffee shop. This bike also comes with 1, 3 or 7 speed options, but we feel the single speed with none of the cables associated with handlebar brakes and shifter’s make this bike look beautiful. We like that this bike has an extended frame and a pedal position that is optimized for tall riders. The matte black version of this bike is our favorite. It comes equipped with blacked out components such as, handlebars, seat tube, and even blacked out spokes. This bikes great quality and head turning looks are why this bike made our list of Best Cruiser Bicycles for Tall Riders.
Kent KX 7-speed Cruiser Bike Review
We have a unique relationship with this bike. We really like its design but feel there are a few things missing. We really like the fact this bicycle has a unique frame design that allows an easy step across for riders of all sizes. We also really like that this bike comes equipped with larger 32” tires. We do not like that fact that this bicycle comes equipped with handlebar shifter’s and brake cables. We understand that this is necessary on a 7-speed cruiser but find it takes away from the overall look of this bicycle. The other two bicycles on our list look great but this bicycle would be perfect for that Tall Rider that is looking for a bicycle for long rides.
Whether you are looking for a cruiser to look great while riding around town or something a little more efficient for commuting to work there is a cruiser bicycle in your future that will fit all your needs. Hopefully, if you are a tall rider this list has provided you with some great insight into what makes a great cruiser for you.
