While mountain biking there are many important things to consider that will improve your riding. You need a properly sized bicycle to provide the best fit, this will result in more power being transmitted through the pedals and into the wheels propelling you forward when you need to climb that next hill. Proper gearing is essential in providing you with a maximum of torque or a maximum of speed depending on the riding conditions that lie ahead. Braking is possibly the most important safety aspect of any bicycle. Being a tall rider generally means that we carry around a larger body frame, this means powerful brakes are important to us when we are going downhill or stopping to maneuver around the next obstacle on the trail.
We have compiled a list of the 3 Best Mountain Bicycles for Tall Riders below. Take a look and see which bicycle would best suit your needs.
Diamondback Overdrive Hardtail Mountain Bike Review

This bicycle caught our eye due to the fact that its extra large 22” aluminum alloy frame is handcrafted. We like all aspects of this bicycle but some of our favorites are, the SR Suntour front suspension fork that provides tall riders with a comfortable ride even when traveling over small bumps. We also like the legendary Shimano drive train that is on this bicycle that will provide years of worry free use for the owners of this bicycle. The fact that this bike is equipped with mechanical disc brakes is great as well, this means the next time we have to service them we wont have the headaches associated with bleeding fully hydraulic disc brakes. One downfall to this bike is the seat. Being a tall rider means a comfortable seat is very important, we suggest throwing out the seat and finding something that is much more comfortable before logging may miles on this bicycle. Despite this small dislike we feel that with the right seat anybody who rides this bike is going to fall in love with it.
Kent Thruster T-29 Review

This bike made our list due to it’s incredible value. Even though it is the most economically priced Mountain Bicycle on our list it has many items that we like but some that we dislike. The derailleurs and shifters are Shimano units but are on the lower end of the scale when it comes to quality. It features front suspension that is not manufactured from one of the leading suspension companies. Even though this bicycle has some dislikes, we have found some items that we really like. The foundation of any bicycle is the frame and this bicycle does not disappoint. It is manufactured with 6061 aluminum which is not only lightweight but very strong, the tread pattern design on the frame also caught our eyes. It comes equipped with alloy rims which are lighter in weight than regular steel rims. Although there are some dislikes about this bike we feel the great features we listed and it’s great price our what put it on our list of Best Mountain Bicycles for Tall Riders.
Schwinn S29 Full Suspension Mountain Bike Review

This bike is our favorite on the list and the only dual suspension bicycle that we reviewed. We really like the crisp shifting that this bike has due to the wonderful quality of the SRAM shifters. These shifters not only work great but also provide 21 different gear options. We really like the frame on this bicycle as well due to its curving top tube, it gives this bicycle a unique look. No matter how tall or strong a rider is this bicycle is equipped with a heavy duty three piece crank, it’s also equipped with mechanical disc brakes, with which you know is a huge like in our opinion. The dual suspension on this bicycle provides the smoothest ride of all the bicycles on our list but with any full suspension bicycle it does not provide the best transfer of power when pedaling hard. This bike is on the heavier side, but that being said it is a full suspension mountain bicycle so that is to be expected. The seat also has much to be offered in terms of comfort, a simple seat change will improve that if riders are looking for something more comfortable for long rides.
No matter what you are looking for in a bicycle we are sure you will find on this list that will beat all of your expectations. And remember tall riders fall from higher heights so make sure you have a great helmet.

We really like this bicycle for its curvy design. This is a feature that we think makes Cruiser style bikes look so great. This is also the only bicycle on the list with white wall tires, a throw back to the bicycles of years ago. This frame has a forward mounted pedal format, this is important for tall riders as it allows great amounts of room for your legs when pedaling. We really like the fact that this bicycle comes in 1-speed, 3-speed and 7-speed designs and comes with a suspension seat for extra comfort. There is not much that we do not like about this bike, but there are a few small things. First the “flame” decals on the frame and chain cover cheapen the look of this bike and even though we love the white wall tires, we wish they were slightly more aggressive to provide better traction when on dirt paths. These are small items that we could easily change and overall we think any tall rider would consider themselves lucky to own this bike.
